  1. The Save SYLK File dialog box saves a
  2. SYLK spreadsheet.
  3.  
  4. ••CAUTION:  SPSS discards SYLK-specific
  5.   information when it saves the file.  Do not
  6.   save the file under its original name.  Save
  7.   the file under a new name, thus leaving the
  8.   original file unchanged.

  10. It saves files in the current folder which is
  11. identified by the menu title above the
  12. list of files in the dialog box.
  13.  
  14. To save a SYLK file in the current folder:
  15.  
  16.   1. Type the name of the file into the
  17.      New Filename text box.
  18.  
  19.   2. Change folders if necessary
  20.  
  21.   3. Click the Save button.

  23. SAVE vs. PASTE
  24.   Click Save to save the file without entering
  25.   a SAVE command into an input window.
  26.   Alternatively, click PASTE to paste the SAVE
  27.   command into an Input Window.  SPSS
  28.   automatically selects the SAVE command but
  29.   awaits your instructions before running it.

  31. OVERWRITING A FILE
  32.   If the file name you assign already exists,
  33.   a dialog box asks whether you want to
  34.   replace the existing file:
  35.  
  36.   • Yes
  37.     Contents of the current file replace
  38.     contents of the original file.
  39.  
  40.   • No
  41.     The file is not saved, and SPSS assumes you
  42.     have changed your mind.
  43.     If you still want to save the file, but
  44.     under a new name, choose Save Data File,
  45.     SYLK again.
  46.     This time assign a unique name to the file.
